Description
The Sri Yantra Thanka (also spelled “Sriyantra Thangka”) is a sacred geometric diagram used in Hindu and Buddhist traditions, especially in Tantric practices. Composed of nine interlocking triangles that surround and radiate out from a central point (bindu), the Sri Yantra represents the union of the divine masculine and feminine. It is considered a powerful symbol for meditation, spiritual awakening, and cosmic harmony, embodying the essence of the universe and the divine Mother, Tripura Sundari or Lalita Devi in Hinduism.
In Tibetan Buddhism, the Thanka (or Thangka) is a traditional scroll painting used as a visual aid for meditation and rituals. When combined with the Sri Yantra, the artwork becomes both a spiritual and artistic masterpiece. The Sri Yantra Thanka is often painted with rich symbolism and vibrant colors, sometimes incorporating deities, mantras, and sacred symbols. It is not merely decorative but is used as a spiritual map guiding the practitioner towards enlightenment and inner balance.
Practicing with a Sri Yantra Thanka involves focusing the mind on its intricate patterns, moving from the outermost square (representing the earthly realm) through the lotus petals and triangles to the central bindu, symbolizing unity with the divine. This meditative journey is said to help transcend material concerns, purify the mind, and connect the soul with higher consciousness. As such, the Sri Yantra Thanka is not only a piece of sacred art but also a profound tool for spiritual transformation.
